I would like the same. To my knowledge, the new API for controlling
class-path versus module-path has not yet been tested. The work on JPMS
may also imply some other API adjustments, even for non-JPMS usages. For
example, the MNG-8084 cleanup was a side-effect.
The work on Maven compiler has reached a point where tests can start. I
was waiting for the upgrade of all needed plugins and dependencies. Now
that they are done, I should be able to rebase and start the tests.
Another reason is that changes in the POM model may be needed, in
particular in the way to declare the source directories. I do not want
to start this debate now, as I think that a debate would be more
productive after runnable plugins are available for demonstrations with
test cases. But if a new model version is introduced, I thought that a
Maven 4 release would be a natural time for that.
