Just to clarify a bit further, I think it's probably acceptable and easy to provide a property for the time and a separate one for the date. I don't think we should bother with formatting...just use the Int standard proposed earlier for reporting.

I think in most cases, simply having a timestamp of any kind is better than nothing. If more customizability is desired, then a plugin is the place for it. This particular issue has been sitting around for eons because we couldn't agree on how to do it.
