I agree. If we think something parameterised is a good idea down the track it could be considered as a more general, separate solution. I wouldn't add it for this one use case :)

Then they can use the buildnumber plugin for this. I don't subscribe to
the slippery-slope theory that just because we make something a little
better means we need to add every possible permutation. I think in most cases, simply having a timestamp of any kind is better than nothing. If
more customizability is desired, then a plugin is the place for it.

This particular issue has been sitting around for eons because we
couldn't agree on how to do it. I threw it into the .10 pile so we could
just do something trivial to cover the 80% case.
