Hey - I ran into this problem last week and managed to isolate it to the dependencies report of the maven project info reports plugin (jira issue: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MPIR-144), but I suspect the actual root cause might lie in a shared component like maven-dependency-tree. The short version of what I'm seeing is that when the dependencies report is enabled, the classpaths passed to the compiler and surefire plugins are being corrupted. I was wondering if someone more familiar with the dependencies report or the dependency tree component might be able to take a look at the jira ticket and give me an idea of where to go from here.
