People,

Does this mean that Moblin might be able to eventually run on ARM CPUs?

Thanks,

Phil.

Chris, There is absolutely no change in the plans for Moblin or
specifically Moblin-IVI. We are continuing to develop and enhance
Moblin and Moblin IVI. With LF announcement, we are reiterating our
commitment to Open Source and passing the stewardship to LF. The
Moblin engineering efforts and IVI in specific are continuing to grow
as well.

We released Moblin core alpha in the last few weeks and plan to
release Moblin IVI regularly. We will provide more information on
Moblin IVI and an update to the Congatec board very soon. We are in
the final phases of integration and testing.

Please feel free to post to the Moblin mailing list for any
specifics.

Thanks, Guru Nagarajan

[Moblin Dev] Linux Foundation to Host Moblin Project

So what does this mean to those of us who where waiting for IVI (and
really Moblin v2.) to reach a stable release? Seriously, is this
just a nice way for Intel to make it all "go away"? (i.e. some cost
accountant suddenly realized that Intel is NOT principally a software
company?)

Since Intel has washed their hands of it, what would be the incentive
for anyone else (read: 'Linux Foundation") to implement Intel's IVI
initiative? I really wasn't looking to broaden the port to an ARM
CPU (there are already plenty of options for that CPU), but in any
event, it would have been nice to actually get a stable Atom Moblin
v2 release and it would have REALLY been nice to get ANY release of
the Congatec IVI BSP to work with Moblin, before it was "kicked to
the curb".

Rusty your on the steering committee, can you tell us what the new timeline is (especially in regard to IVI)? Any what, if any, future
involvement will the Intel development team (do they still have
jobs?) have with Moblin and IVI?

Because right now I am feeling that I made a big mistake pursuing an
Intel Atom based IVI system (i.e. "Congatec"), since it now appears
that Moblin and IVI are "dead projects", can you tell me why I shouldn't feel that way, and continue to hold out hope for an Intel based IVI system?

Thanks, Chris

Linux Foundation to Host Moblin Project

The Linux Foundation (LF), the nonprofit organization dedicated to
accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced it will host the
industry's most advanced and open Linux-based mobile project,
Moblin. Created in 2007, Moblin is an open source project that
supports Linux-based software platforms, and is optimized for the
next generation of mobile devices, including netbooks, mobile
Internet devices (MID), in-vehicle infotainment systems, and other
embedded devices.

The first developer meeting for the Moblin project, under the Linux
Foundation, will take place at the Annual Collaboration Summit
April 8-10, 2009, in San Francisco.
