Hi there HTH

I came unstuck last time I gave "slaine" a go, but I might try again.

Thanks for the pointer.

Here's another one though...

UNR 9.04 is installed on my Mini9 right now, and it's great. Under hardware drivers the Broadcom STA wireless drivers are listed as Proprietary. This is preceded by the comment -

"Proprietary drivers do not have the public source code that Ubuntu developers are free to modify. They represent a risk to you because they are only available on the types of computer chosen by the manufacturer, and security updates to them depend solely on the responsiveness of the manufacturer."

This would suggest to me that Broadcom chose to allow the drivers to be used on the Dell Mini 9, so why should they not be used on Moblin instead of Ubuntu, on the Mini 9?

Sorry if this is a silly question.

Cheers, Steve

I can't see that the Moblin release will EVER have the broadcom driver due to the licensing problems. However, I have a guide that helps with installing in on the installed version (i.e. not live off the usb key) http://slaine.org/_slaine/Dell_Mini_9.html

However, there will be releases of the Moblin UI on other distros. Novell are working on one as are Canonical (Ubuntu Moblin Remix or some such) which may well bridge that gap (as well as some of the more common applications).

So given the wireless still doesn't work for the Mini9 straight off the USB when would it be reasonable to expect the drivers to be rolled into a release?

I love what I see, and I've tried the various instructions to get the wireless going but to no avail, so I'm not going to trash my UNR install just yet...

Cheers, Steve
