it's become pretty standard it seems sshd needed for incoming connnections, but not outgoing; so often not installed by default on "personal" machines (desktops, notebooks, netbooks) - e.g. Fedora does not by default install sshd, although it's certainly available. /sbin/ifconfig to get to the tool IP address needed if there isn't something adding the machine to local DNS service so it can be resolved by name.
