it's because MPEG codecs are covered by patents and we'd have to pay fees, so we
cannot give those codecs away for free.

We'd love to be able to give everyone codecs for free, but unfortunately our
lawyers tell us that's not something we should do.

You're welcome to install them yourself, or get them with a netbook that's
pre-installed with moblin, those vendors usually add the codecs and take care of
that for you.

also, ogg/theora videos play without the need for extra codecs. you could 
convert
all your media to this format as well.
