now I remember! after latest upgrades I had 2 moblin entries in grub at
bootime and in the menu.lst file.. I didn't notice they were related to two
different kernels so I just deleted one (the new one just generated) to
avoid having two choices at bootime.. doh.. stupid me!

so that's very probably the reason of my problem.. I'm very sorry for
wasting your time and thanks again for your help

I'll try re-adding tonight the entry I deleted.. if you have any chance can
you paste me your 2.6.31.6 kernel entry section you have in
/boot/grub/menu.lst file? just to be sure.. as I remember it was not the
same as the old one except for the kernel release string.. it had an
additional line I have never seen (BUILD=xxx) that I am not sure I will be
able to remember or find again after deleting it..

bye! :)
