I did some research and found out that applications won't recognize the
environment variables under MAC OS X. If I launch eclipse within a shell
(terminal) with the command
open /Applications/eclipse/Eclipse.app
the plugins work. To set explicit environment variables under OSX follow this
guide: http://www.shebang.nl/2008/09/osx-environment-variables/
So you can close this issue, because it depends on the OSX settings.
