I think the alternative approach is better because it is more flexible. This is also the approach implemented by the jnlp-download-servlet jnlpFiles configuration. I think an easy way to implement this for the other goals would be to port the jnlp-download-servlet config. You can avoid the duplication in multiple templates by using the Velocity #parse directive to put common parts in a separate file.

A workaround to include several JNLPs with jnlp-single is to configure multiple plugin executions like this:

                </jnlp>
            </configuration>
        </execution>
    </executions>

This is more verbose than the jnlpFiles configuration, though and also incurs a performance penalty.

MWEBSTART-58 is similar to this issue, perhaps this should be marked as duplicate?

h1. Problem

I have a scenario, where the same application is deployable as both JNLP applet and webstart.

It looks like the Java Plugin in JRE 1.5u10 does not support JNLP files that contain both <applet-desc> and <application-desc>, so I ended up with two JNLP files which are for the most part the same.

Right now I am using the same template and Veloc...
