I suggest putting a request in to have it bundled and deployed to Maven central. If not possible by configuration, I would prefer the feature to be disabled all together. Since findbugs 2, it seems like http://update.findbugs.org/update-check is contacted every time a project is built and the findbugs plugin is invoked...
