I think you are wrong, but i checked in a working bin assembly.

I disagree.  We don't want to distribute the jakarta-commons jars,
etc.  I agree that its ok for the examples (they go in the WAR) b/c it
makes testing the examples easier.

Can the transitive dependency part be turned off?  Is that an option
with assembly?  If so, please turn it off.  That's the way our nightly
builds (and releases) have been up until now.


2.) Maven assembly doesn't really allow you to easily create both
source and bin tarballs.

What should contain the source tarball?


Take a look at the last (1.1.1) release.  There is a source tarball there.
