There are various tasks related to graphics which need completed for the 2.0 release and also for the new website homepage.
One more: An icon.
An icon essentially forms part of a logo :)
We have a logo, but as has been suggested before, we could begin to develop an icon/logo that does not include the name, "OpenOffice.org".

I went to the presentation on how they marketed Firefox.
For those of us that missed this, you can download MP3 versions of these presentations via BitTorrent from: http://www.questar.it/desktopsummit/archives/2005/02/audio_files_fro_1.html with blog and photos starting from: http://www.questar.it/desktopsummit/archives/2005/02/2005_desktop_su.html
And one of the things they worked on was on making an image like what I just described. At first they advertised it everywhere, people got used to it. And now, when people see the Firefox icon they inmediately recognize it, even without the text "Firefox".
That is because they did not have an icon/logo so they needed one :) We didn't have a logo until it was created either.
This icon should "go well" with the splash screen that we have. The splash screen has set the stage for our visual image.
We could take or re-use graphical elements from the splash screen, or icon set as Graham has previously suggested.
I wouldn't be opposed to an icon competition, similar to the splash screen competition.
Graham has started a branding thread on [EMAIL PROTECTED], see: http://marketing.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=art&msgId=1820251 and suggested a deadline of Sunday 6 Mar as a deadline for brainstorming and suggesting ideas.
And Cristian has placed information and an inventory about branding in an issue 43862, see: http://marketing.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=art&msgId=1834050
If potential artists are familiar with any previous history, the new splash screen and icon set, it would be a good idea to submit any new graphical elements for branding ideas to the Art Project. We can display them in the Art Gallery (http://marketing.openoffice.org/art/) for consideration by OOo community members.
