Hello Charles, David, Dwayne and all,
I think it would be nice to have my tool included or somehow linked to the Pootle project. BTW, my glossary management tool is called Marani.
It is very neat that Pootle supports various languages, as well as
various l10n projects, but in our case, I think we should host one
instance of Pootle to a server we choose and use it only for OOo
Native-Lang l10n projects, together with Marani. This would be the
most accurate way of using theese tools for OOo projects. Of course,
pootle.wordeforge.org will continue to host as many l10n projects as
the authors would like. I am only suggesting that the intance we will
use for OOo l10n sould be customized for OOo native-Lang l10n projects
and not include other products, like Mozilla.
Yes it makes sense to have an OpenOffice.org-only Pootle...
Dwayne, using PO is a good way to handle the localizations (and I hopeWe can resolve this when we get to it, one step at a time...
to see all the PO tools migrated to XLIFF and TMX in the future), but
as soon as we intriduce TM, we will need to use a database. Glossary
management does not strictly require a database and this is why I
chose to use XML files instead.
My idea is that the main requirement for TM is actually text searching rather than a relational database, and have some ideas how to do this, but don't want to get into the same long technical discussion we had on the Pootle list :-)
But I do believe that all the OOo l10n projects _should_ use TM, as it
improves the quality of the translations and the consistancy of the
terms used within the project, not to mention the dramtic improvement
in l10n speed. So, like ou mentioned, until we have a TM
functionality, we should advice the l10n leads to use an offline PO
editor first to update the PO files with words/ phrazes from TM and
upload the POs for use with Pootle after that.
Not a bad plan for those who want that.
Yes. Most recent Linux distributions should have python and php so that should be fineAs Marani only requires PHP, I guess we should find a server that meet Pootle requirements first. AFAIK, One-time root access, python and php are among them. Talking about storage, we should not need to much for testing purposes, but hosting all the l10n projects means hosting all the translated and untranslated resources for all the languages/ l10n projects :)
Regards David
