Hi Charles
From Pootle's point of view:
Assuming the server already has Python, Apache etc.
The actual source code is insignificantly small
The majoriy of the space would be for PO files, GSI files etc.
I guessed we should support 20MB per language per version - this figure is a maximum if the help is translated as well.
I was amazed when checking the languages list to see that there are about 85 languages.
So assuming some expansion this would be about 2 GB for 2.x
Is this kind of figure feasible for your server? If not there are plenty of ways to cut it down - I'm sure at the moment the size would be much less (probably more like 500MB)
Or on the other hand we could start off with a smaller test with a few languages, and if we need to find another server later.
There's also the issue of version control which I think I'll talk about in your new thread
Hope that helps David

Hello,
thanks for the information. As we don't own our server, (we rent it from
a hosting association being part of the french FOSS community) I need
lots of input on this so that we can check out how feasible this would
be. We may, from Ars Aperta's side, want to reduce the complexity of these
things, not so much because of money but because of the complexity
underlying such a service.
For instance, it would help us greatly if the set of permissions for users on the server was clear and made simple.
How much space would be needed grossly?
Best,
Charles.
