You raise an interesting question here. Why couldn't we simply use the
full language name? That would be after all logical. For Breton,
actually, we would use "Brezoneg" (I think) Breton being the french name
for the language. To this idea I see two rather big drawbacks :

- internationalization issues: how are you going to type the URL of the
Chinese project when you don't have an IME? (for example)

Use English (Globish :) ) for language names.

-practical issues: tying the full names of languages in their own
languages might be tedious and long.

We can use 2 sub domains for most known languages with stable shortcuts
like fr/french, de/german, ru/russian, tr/turkish, etc.
