Hello all,

Thanks to Alexandro for introducing this discussion. I'll add a few
more comments to clarify. It will probably be some time before
implementation begins, as I am waiting on comments from Louis and
others in the website-dev list, but in the meantime I would appreciate
your thoughts/suggestions - especially if you are the webdesigners of
your project pages.

You can see the proposed layout at
www.patentpending.co.nz/openoffice/tableless/index.html (please note
that this page has no images - it's just the bare-bones HTML and CSS).
to get a better feel for the structure, I would suggest either viewing
the source, or getting the Web Developer Extension for Firefox, and
using Outline > Outline Current Element to see the different layout
elements as you move your mouse around the page.

A few comments on the impact of this change: if you have custom CSS
styles that depend on #content, #main, #navcol, #navcolumn, #midcol,
#bodycol, this change will affect you. For most projects, the changes
will be minor and not take long to implement.

I have created a wiki page at
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Website/Going_Tableless which
currently has some basic information. This page will be updated as we
progress with the effort, providing documentation for those wishing to
make the switch. Of course, there will also be help available from the
website-dev list.

That's it for now - as always, feedback is appreciated!

Regards,
Ivan.
