just because these unfounded "$build system is the best" praises are like religion: Before you go down one road, consider all options. In my experience maven is perfectly fine for many, if not most, tasks. It enforces a structure and in my experience gives you less headaches as you normally don't get to creative with the projects and stick to the defaults. That the support in the NetBeans IDE as very nice might influence my thinking though.
