The thing that struck me about the previous 'flat' splash screens is that they show something that is quite a bit different, style wise, than the IDE. I think consistency is rather important, the previous entries just bugged me in that regard.
Your recommended version just seems a nice break with earlier splash screens and puts emphasis on the fact that this is a Apache project now. Good work :-)
