To be clear, I have no problem with that decision. I am just suggesting that it be clearly communicated somewhere prominent. https://github.com/apache/incubator-netbeans/blob/master/README.md for example could note the last-synchronized Mercurial revision and explain the potential implications for contributors. (At least until automated synchronization is up and running, or the relevant portions of the Mercurial repository are officially closed.)
