I won't put time into describing, why I think backwards compatibility is necessary. If the same energy, that people put into saying "Netbeans must build on JDK11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1", would be spend to research a way to create a JDK 8+11 compatible build, this whole discussion would be unnessary.
