Thanks for replies Pierre and Mark!

With several pull requests merged last week addressing the Python
concerns Mark raised, I believe we are ready to proceed with the
release candidate process.

Based on a conversation Pierre, we should be able to collaborate on
preparing candidate builds for both 2.0.0-M1 and 1.24.0.

We will need to make a few website adjustments for the 2.0.0-M1
version in terms of documentation and downloads, but it should be
possible to handle that with some alternative navigation links for
now.

I plan on starting the release candidate build process for 2.0.0-M1 soon.

Regards,
David Handermann
