The NiFi documentation is very good so I would always recommend starting there:

I am not familiar with running NiFi on windows, but I did note that the admin 
guide says you should run nifi.cmd and not run-wifi.bat to start the NiFi 
server. I see no reason not the use NiFi 2.6, there have been a significant 
number of improvements and bug fixes over previous releases.
