Samsung did add journaling support to SmartFs in their fork of NuttX:  
https://github.com/Samsung/TizenRT/tree/master/os  . The Samsung fork is 
Apache 2.0

Porting that journaling support might be one lower effort way to improve 
power safety with SmartFS (which already supports wear leveling and 
other good FLASH features).
