Why are you on this subproject?
-------------------------------
I'm interested in an open project management tool that would step away
from exclusive Gantt chart approach. Me along with number of other
people at our company attemped to work with MS Project, but it is to
simple, too linear, not enough thought is given to the unpredictable and
floating tasks.
What do you wish for in a project management tool?
--------------------------------------------------
I would like for it to take into consideration that I have at least 6-12
floating tasks at hand, whose dates often get swapped. I cannot work
with just the linear model as there is nothing linear about some of the
work we do. I am often in charge of pilot software, which means I do not
have the comfort of well planned and structured approached stretching
over weeks at a time. In my case it is often R&D and development in one
move in order to determine feasibility. My ideal project management tool
would also be my organizer with personal tasks and Outlook like
calendar, where I could also plot dependencies.
What (if any) can you contribute with?
--------------------------------------
Beta testing for sure, (possibly some Java development, though I doubt
it at the moment), I can also test out your software in multiuser
environment as I should not have a problem recruiting other developers.
What can we (as a subproject) do to develop OOPM?
-------------------------------------------------
(not sure about the context of this question but here it goes:) We need
a feature list for sure, and from the get go should not look to just
copy MS Project.
What background do you have related to this subproject?
-------------------------------------------------------
I'm a System Specialist, working on several projects at a time. I am
currently working with a number of tools to keep track of my workflow.
Unfortunately I find that it is often the case with people trying to
organize themselves.
Radek.
