GitHub user Zheaoli edited a discussion: [VOTE] Proposal: Adding Cultural References to Release Titles
Dear Apache OpenDAL Community, I would like to initiate a special vote regarding an enhancement to our release process that aims to showcase our community's cultural diversity while making releases more engaging. Background: Release management can be a demanding task. Many open source projects have successfully incorporated cultural references in their releases, adding a personal touch while maintaining professionalism. For example, the runc project has included various cultural references in their release titles: 1. [runc v1.2.1 -- "No existe una escuela que enseñe a vivir."](https://github.com/opencontainers/runc/releases/tag/v1.2.1) 2. [runc v1.2.0 -- "できるときにできることをやるんだ。それが今だ。"](https://github.com/opencontainers/runc/releases/tag/v1.2.0) 3. [v1.1.15 -- "How, dear sir, did you cross the flood? By not stopping, friend, and by not straining I crossed the flood."](https://github.com/opencontainers/runc/releases/tag/v1.1.15) Proposal: 1. Process: - Each version's release process will begin with a discussion in GitHub Discussions - A release manager will be selected for the version - The release manager can propose a subtitle for the release 2. Subtitle Guidelines: - Can include quotes from movies, TV shows, animations, books, or other cultural sources - Must be non-political and non-offensive. [Apache OpenDAL Code of Conduct](https://github.com/apache/opendal?tab=coc-ov-file) - Will become a permanent part of the project's history - Can be accepted without any -1 vote. 3. Implementation: - Regular release process remains unchanged - The subtitle will be added to the official release title - Example: "v0.51.0 -- 'ソロキャンは寂しさも 楽しむものなんだって'". The template of the release title will be added into the release guideline Context: This proposal evolved from an initial idea to celebrate Yuru Camp△ Season 4 in v0.51.0. Through community discussions, it has grown into an opportunity to showcase the diversity and personality of the Apache OpenDAL community. Voting Guidelines: - Duration: Minimum 72 hours - Format: +1 : approve +0 : no opinion -1 : disapprove (please provide reason) I will send a PR to update the Release Guideline after this proposal has been accepted. Special thanks to @frostming @yuchanns @Xuanwo @tisonkun for their valuable input during preliminary discussions.
