Please do not modify the POM.xml file.

What you should do:

1. Use jdk1.6.0_23 and above and configure the setting through Window >>
Preferences >> Java >> Compiler >> and set the Compliance level to 1.6.

2.  Configure the Runtime Environment through Window >> Preferences >> Java
>> Installed JREs >> and change the installed JRE to jdk1.6.0_xx by
selecting it and clicking the EDIT button. Make sure the checkbox is
selected. Save and continue.
