OpenOffice is completely free. Please double-check that you are downloading from the official site http://openoffice.org which in turn will serve the download from SourceForge (click the download button, then wait a few seconds when you are sent to SourceForge and the download will start automatically).

If you see any requests for money or for activation codes, you are not downloading the right file, or you got redirected to another site. Search engines can mislead you to non-official sites. Methods to check that you downloaded the right file are described in our main download page (see link above).

See also http://s.apache.org/genuine-openoffice to know more about what we do to ensure that our users always download the official version.

Thanks for a quick answer. In addition, I'm willing to help improve
Open Office products - but at no cost !

As a start, please help your fellow users by disseminating our article. We would really like everybody to safely download OpenOffice.

Regards,
  Andrea.
