The solution for most spellcheck problems on OpenOffice 4.x is to delete or
rename the User Profile. Details of this are given in
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426

No amount of un/re-installing affects the User Profile. It must be explocitly
deleted or renamed. OpenOffice will then generate a new profile on next
startup.
