Hi all, I tried with 4.1.15_GB, 4.1.14_GB and 4.1.15_US and all resulted in the same error.
Although, I found an old dev build, which seems to want to be 4.5.0_1_linux-4.15-x86_64, and that works without issue. All the best everyone, Dean ________________________________ From: Dean Webber <[email protected]> Sent: 04 November 2025 11:22 To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: General Error when saving and opening documents in Writer Hi Aivaras, No this does not seem to be the case. I can save the document. Only the first save gives the error, any sequential save does not give this error. If I use save as, only the first save gives the error, any sequential save does not give this error I could try to troubleshoot the install if there is a verbose output for soffice I could be looking at, or a diagnostic tool I could use. Out of curiosity I ran soffice as root, and the error persisted, but still good to check. What was interesting, is this seemed to load a new profile (asking for user details and losing user preferences), but this seems to be intended behaviour :) Thanks, Dean ________________________________ From: Aivaras Stepukonis <[email protected]> Sent: 03 November 2025 23:07 To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: General Error when saving and opening documents in Writer Hi Dean, Could it be that your document is set to “read-only?” (Read-only documents can only be “saved as.”) -- Pagarbiai / Sincerely, 📧 Aivaras Stepukonis <mailto:[email protected]> ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2025-11-03 13:23, Dean Webber rašė: > Hey everyone, > > I have upgraded my system, installed OpenOffice 4.1.15 and getting "Error > saving the document" "General Error", when saving documents using Writer. > > Basically, when I save a document for the first time it throws this error, > but not on subsequent saves (unless I 'Save As' another file name). > Attempting to open files results in "General Error", Upon selecting okay, the > file opens.
