Hello Gaurav,

Hi everyone,
I'm Gaurav, a master's student in Applied Data Science at USC (Los
Angeles). I work primarily in C++ and Python, and I'd like to volunteer
with OpenOffice.
We value action, so all contribution are welcomed. We review work in the
beginning more closely and with trust we let you work on your own.
Changes can be made through github in a lot of fields and we will enable
you if you want to work on certain topics.
To start, I'm happy to help with bug reproduction and triage, or small C++
bug fixes — whatever is most useful. I've gone through the New Volunteer
Orientation modules [only say this if you actually do].
Could someone point me to where help is most needed right now, or a good
first bug to look at?
I am not sure that we have beginner-friendly developer tasks. But if you
are willed to invest time, we would be happy to support your learning.
Where we need help:
Testing:
- you can always send in reports of your finds via Dev mailing list [1].
- I think test concept would be also something nice to look at. We have
somewhere some old concepts, tests.
- I would stick to normal user level test for the start. Unit tests can
be complex.
- Our Issues are stored in bugzilla. A user you can obtain by writing a
mail to sysadmin [2] and provide a handle and mail address that we
should use.
Infrastructure topics:
- We need to migrate pootle to weblate. This is a medium difficult task.
And if you are willed something we need support.
- New extension page. This is beginner friendly if we ignore the size.
The idea is to migrate static html pages to a static page generator.
development of themes, layouts etc is needed. I think it is beginner
friendly in skill, difficult in size (we have 5gb of pages and not all
need to be migrated. But better something to write an application to do
the job.
AOO Coding:
Our build guides have been recently outdated since we updated the build
chain and python. You could help improve the build guides on the wiki [3].
I concider building AOO as a medium difficult task, since our build
environment is stiched together from a lot of different tools.
If you have issues please ask.
Thanks,
Gaurav Nagalapuram Venkataramanan
All the best
Peter

On the bottom of the Article you find OS specific guides, which are more
