we talked some time ago about having one wiki for developers available.
We currently have two:
Which seems to be reason enough to avoid the duplication of efforts.
1. move to an mediawiki installation, do we all agree ?
Twiki seemed to be easier to maintain/migrate because it's filesystem
based and not relying on a database. But if there is a solution
for 2. (administration) we should move forward with mediawiki. This
would also solve the "diff" problem we have with Twiki :-)
2. look for an administrator of this installation
Mike Leibowitz is (kindly) administering go-oo.org's currently, but
neither of us are really concerned about holding onto that I guess -
whatever is easiest / most-helpful for you is best I think.
It would be great, if Mike would take care of a commonly used wiki on
the openoffice.org domain.
Of course - wrt. content admin - I'd hope we can have little ~no
official editorial oversight - beyond focusing it on developer content &
just let it evolve.
TWiki has the concept of Webs (namespaces). One could think to have a
Dev:, a NLC:, ... web. Does mediawiki provide something similar?
While I agree that the wiki will help the developer collaboration we
should allow for an inclusive structure that could be used by other
functional groups also.
3. how to migrate the existent data of the current wiki to the new
instance ?
Migrating the existing content is ~easy enough; and I can volenteer
some typing action there; I'd suggest simple cut/paste of the existing
developer content with some (manual?) re-formatting.
TWiki topics are in textfiles. If there is an import...
Also - there are some things (suck as the Twiki user-name mapping page)
where we could benefit from simply importing the existing
http://go-oo.org/name-account.html page instead of persisting with that.
There is a difference between name-account.html and DomainDeveloper.
"DomainDeveloper" contains just the people with cvs write access to code
projects of the OpenOffice.org repository.
"name-account" lists some additional honorable contributors.
So I would be happy to join the information from the two files.
Anyhow - IMHO the goal of a single wiki page is an encouraging step
towards working more closely together which would be great.
Yes!
Greetings
Stefan
