Did the spec team discuss with you the reason why they didn't like the idea?
This is perhaps better than the previous system, but I think there are still significant cases where using a wiki is a much faster route for people (particularly outside contributors) to use to collaboratively produce a specification.
I agree with this view. Wiki IMO is a very flexible medium that could potentially serve the purpose that the spec project is trying to achieve, with much less unpleasant overhead for the contributors.
But I would like to propose that this approach to spec generation be given more thought. Reasons: 1) Wikis are designed for this
Yes!
3) The spec process is apparently working well for those inside Sun, less well for those outside. If there were an easier route for those less involved in development to produce specs it could be run concurrently as an alternate mechanism (possibly with a final step of converting to the required template format, that could be automated)
Funny you mentioned this, because I was going to propose something similar. :-) I hope you guys at Sun realize that, we are not disputing the purpose that the spec project is trying to serve, but rather, at present, it is delivered suboptimally and and needs a workable solution for all parties, that is, those who are inside and outside Sun. I'm sure at the current state it is working wonderfully for you inside Sun, but that alone should not be construed as a reason to keep the process unchanged, that is, if you are really serious about bringing more community participation.
4) This would perhaps be particularly helpful for outside contributers who are not coders
This would help even for those who are coders. :-)
5) Less likely to break due to problems in the OOo template macros :-)
Is someone going to look into the problem BTW? :-) Kohei --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
