For Thunderbird users like the same is possible by applying the same s&r with e.g. sed to the text files that contain the mails. You will need to delete the corresponding msf file also and let it become recreated from TBird. It's very useful for such large threads as our most beloved one. I do it from time to time and it only costs a few seconds to minutes for all the lists I'm subscribed to.
