I could reply that probably using IRC is eating their brains ;) as most questions asked at dev seem to be quite different. Building OOo requires some extra care, especially on Windows but on Linux it can also break easily (actually I succeeded in building OOo quite a few times with my patches on a Windows machine but my Linux build was strangely broken). So even if you read instructions you might fail.
What Per is doing is just great, I remember searching the wiki, googling it, and trying to find all pieces of info I needed.
