I am more sceptical of ISO now than ever before. IMHO they are less than
irrelevant when it comes to standards for IT. They move far to slowly to
keep up and their procedures have proven to be corruptible. the IETF,
W3C, OASIS et al might not be perfect, but at least they are transparent
and things actually *get done*.
The NBs that make up SC34 are now stuffed with MS employees and
consultants [1] and the debate about which group actually takes on the
maintenance of 26300 seems to be leaning toward the the group that -
wait for it - maintains ISO/IEC 29500 (OOXML to you and me) too! i.e.
Microsoft. They will probably do what they always do: their utmost to
stall and halt proceedings until it is in their interests to allow them
to proceed.
Oh yes, Ad Hoc Group 3 is essentially finished according to this [2] and
will be replaced by WG6. :-)
