nothing more than anecdotal evidence, but there was talk a couple of
years back that the "get windows xp to dual-boot on an x86 macintosh"
project was severely hindered because people were hoarding information
rather than sharing it. i think the prize/bounty for that was up
around the US$10,000 mark if memory serves
