Nobody would notice, except all the (2000+ ?) JOSM users who will be forced, by some cutoff date, to download and use a new version. For the people who do it before the cutoff, it would go unnoticed. For everyone else, it will be a forced change. I agree that upgrading to take advantage of new features is good, and will not be difficult for any one JOSM user to do.
