Hi, > NOTICE: > gazetteer.openstreetmap.org is being retired at the end of this month. > 31st August 2010.
For us Marble developers this creates a situation: We are using this service in all our fully deployed stable releases to query OpenStreetMap search results. So this will leave Marble users with an application that has broken OpenStreetMap support. Bad show for us and OpenStreetMap :-( Has this vital and important change been communicated earlier? We think a two week notice isn't enough for a vital service like this one. We need at least half a year or even better a year to be able to properly fade out support on our side. Would there be a way of leaving nominatim support intact via the given API just with more limited capabilities (so that it still works with reduced quality and taking less hardware resources)? Is there a low traffic OSM announcement list that provides announcements like these for people who rely on OpenStreetMap services? Is there a list available of APIs and services that OSM provides which are considered "enterprise ready"? In terms of "enterprise ready" I'd expect a few commitments to be made, most importantly: * long-term commitment with regard to the availability and stability of the openstreetmap service APIs * early announcements via a dedicated channel about discontinuations of the service * a communicated deprecation process description for available openstreetmap service APIs Best Regards, Torsten Rahn > Dev seeking an alternative, try: > http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/ > http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Nominatim > > gazetteer's server hardware will be re-purposed. > > PS: Can someone please let OpenMaps know.
