It's so easy to write a robot. any script kid can do this. Any GIS professional can but who is willing to do on the ground survey? Doing a bot right without destruction of other data is very difficult. I have done imports semi automatic edits ... but the real challenge was to fix the mess left behind manually by broken uploads. corner cases not considered initially and many more. So the message is don't do it unless you are absolutely committed and willing to fix all problems it causes.
