If you followed that argument through then you'd also be able to say that there's no point in publishing the planet file each week, since it's all queryable via the API. The point of publishing all of the GPX data is, just like the planet, when you're doing something on a larger scale than would be sensible, polite, or in line with the usage policy for the API.
