The cartography work that I do is not intended as a simplistic multicoloured "visualisation of the database". It's a map, and cartographic decisions about what to show, and what to leave out, are key to its success. "Expose as much of the OSM data as possible" is only a goal with a sufficiently loose definition of 'as possible'.
