colin nichols commented on PARQUET-1035:
----------------------------------------
+1, would be awesome to have a standard, explicit way to express options for
input-format --> arrow and arrow --> output-format transformations.
I have submitted a slightly less ambitious pull request to get the ball
rolling, which builds on top of the work [~xhochy] did to add read support:

> Write Int96 from Arrow Timestamp(ns)
> ------------------------------------
>
> Key: PARQUET-1035
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PARQUET-1035
> Project: Parquet
> Issue Type: New Feature
> Components: parquet-cpp
> Reporter: colin nichols
>
> Although considered deprecated, this is still required by various engines.
> Supporting it will increase compatibility until broad support for other
> timestamp formats arrives.
