I'm afraid that is the main issue that we have no active committers who have enough experience in protobuf. Meanwhile it is great that there are more contributors who work on it so they can review each other's work. So I would suggest cross reviewing your PRs first and if you got an experienced review ping me and I'll push it. (I'll also review the PRs before pushing but it is a great help if someone else who has more experience in the area has had their comments before.)
