I think actively soliciting donations is a great idea. One thing to consider with your discussion is to try and summarize an "ask" / TLDR in the first sentence so people can quickly figure out if they are interested.
Something like "The Parquet community is trying to improve the format via donations of "real world" Parquet files with complex or unusual schemas (for example many columns, deeply nested types, etc).
