I'm sorry but I think you misunderstood me. I don't mean that you should
create a branch now that you've finished. That makes no sense. I
basically meant it as an advice for next time. As for branch creations,
I don't think there needs to be a big process for creating one. It's
just a tool: create a safe place to do something that may break things
for a while but let other people easily follow and chime in or help if
they want. This is often called a "feature branch". Once it's finished
you get approval to merge back into trunk using a quick vote
and.....done.

If you have doubts that maybe some of your changes might be subject to
discussion, open a Jira ticket and attach your patch. People can then
review and give feedback. Otherwise, you're a committer, and we're using
CTR (commit-then-review) so you can also just commit the patch. It's
just that big bulk changes make peer review harder IMO and working like
this shouldn't be the norm.
