It's not possible to modify the jar file, so you'll need to use user space. But
that's different on every OS. A better choice would be to use the [Preferences
API|http://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/technotes/guides/preferences/overview.html]
which handles this for you and was intended as a replacement for using
Properties files.
