That's a tiny amount of memory, so you might be causing the no-scratch-file 
implementation to page via virtual memory, which will make it as slow as your 
scratch file. Try using much more memory, 256 or 512mb. Also try disabling 
virtual memory in your VM to ensure that you're not paging.
