We don't check consistency. This was a runtime exception due to an invalid API
call. That particular API does a sanity check on its arguments, because our
code must normalise those arguments. In this case that normalisation was not
happening because we had neglected to implement MacExpertEncoding. Note that
without the normalisation occurring all bets are off and PDFBox would proceed
in an invalid manner most likely concluding with a NullPointerException
somewhere downstream.
